THE PERMANENT EQUIPMENT GUIDE

Excavator augers

Hole requirements come before attachment selection.

Auger attachments drill holes in suitable ground. The intended diameter, depth and ground conditions should be part of the brief supplied to the contractor.

SELECTION / SCOPE / HANDOVER

Before choosing the equipment

Provide design information and utility-locate arrangements. Ask how the proposed auger and carrier fit the ground and how obstructions or unstable holes will be escalated to the responsible designer.

What belongs in the quote

Include spoil handling and any follow-on inspection or placement work. Agree which unexpected conditions change the method and the price.

Think about the surrounding work

Describe what must be cut, broken, drilled or separated and the surrounding structures, utilities and occupied areas. Ask how the attachment matches the carrier and what protection, access and environmental controls belong in the work plan. Define the finished result and how removed material will be handled.

Three questions for your contractor

  1. What ground and hole geometry were assumed?
  2. How will obstructions be handled?
  3. Who inspects before the next stage?

Bring a useful project brief

Bring site photographs, access measurements, available drawings and a description of the finished result. Identify what is known about the ground and existing services, and distinguish confirmed information from assumptions. Ask for written inclusions, exclusions, change procedures and handover records before comparing totals.

Equipment selection and the work method need a qualified contractor familiar with the site. This guide helps frame the brief; it does not replace manufacturer instructions, site assessment or engineering.
