Demolition is controlled deconstruction

A sound demolition plan identifies what stays, what goes and how structures, services, neighbors and the environment remain protected.

Understand what comes down: Survey the structure; Isolate services; Separate & dispose

Survey before pricing

Confirm ownership limits, shared walls, buried structures, tanks, wells, septic components and trees to retain. Qualified assessment may be required for asbestos, lead or other hazardous materials.

Disconnect and verify

Utilities should be isolated by authorized parties and confirmed before mechanical work. Plan dust control, exclusion zones, traffic, noise and fire prevention.

Separate and close out

Sort reusable, recyclable, regulated and disposal materials where practical. Backfill voids with suitable material, compact as required and document tickets, disconnections and final condition.

Safety note: Utility locating does not replace safe excavation practice. Requirements differ by location and conditions; use qualified professionals and follow the authority having jurisdiction.

Questions to ask

  • What information or assumptions is this plan based on?
  • Who is responsible for locates, permits, survey control and inspection?
  • What site condition would stop or change the work?
  • How are quantities, changes and disposal documented?
  • What records remain when the work is complete?
