THE PERMANENT EQUIPMENT GUIDE

Wheel loaders

Loading productivity depends on the route.

Wheel loaders move and load material with a front-mounted attachment. Bucket selection, stockpile layout and truck access influence the work cycle.

SELECTION / SCOPE / HANDOVER

Before choosing the equipment

Tell the contractor the material type, loading location and destination. Ask how the selected loader fits the loading height and travel space without assuming one bucket arrangement fits all materials.

What belongs in the quote

Include stockpile management, loading responsibilities and any access improvements. Agree how quantities will be recorded where hauling or supplied material is priced separately.

Think about the surrounding work

Describe the material, travel route and destination before comparing support machines. A balanced site plan accounts for loading, travel, dumping, return journeys and the work waiting at each end. Ask who coordinates access, surface protection, traffic separation and changes when ground or weather conditions differ from the estimate.

Three questions for your contractor

  1. Does the bucket suit the material?
  2. How does the loader fit the truck-loading area?
  3. How are quantities documented?

Bring a useful project brief

Bring site photographs, access measurements, available drawings and a description of the finished result. Identify what is known about the ground and existing services, and distinguish confirmed information from assumptions. Ask for written inclusions, exclusions, change procedures and handover records before comparing totals.

Equipment selection and the work method need a qualified contractor familiar with the site. This guide helps frame the brief; it does not replace manufacturer instructions, site assessment or engineering.
