THE PERMANENT EQUIPMENT GUIDE

Site dumpers & tracked carriers

Move spoil where larger trucks cannot fit.

Site dumpers and compact carriers support shorter material movements within constrained projects. Selection depends on access, terrain, load characteristics and unloading requirements.

SELECTION / SCOPE / HANDOVER

Before choosing the equipment

Map the route from excavation to stockpile or collection point. Ask how the machine will be loaded, manoeuvred and unloaded without blocking other work or public access.

What belongs in the quote

Specify delivery, route protection and cleanup. Confirm the planned operating arrangements and how the excavation rate will be balanced with the carrier's material movement.

Think about the surrounding work

Describe the material, travel route and destination before comparing support machines. A balanced site plan accounts for loading, travel, dumping, return journeys and the work waiting at each end. Ask who coordinates access, surface protection, traffic separation and changes when ground or weather conditions differ from the estimate.

Three questions for your contractor

  1. Can the whole route accommodate the carrier?
  2. Where will loading and unloading occur?
  3. What surface protection is included?

Bring a useful project brief

Bring site photographs, access measurements, available drawings and a description of the finished result. Identify what is known about the ground and existing services, and distinguish confirmed information from assumptions. Ask for written inclusions, exclusions, change procedures and handover records before comparing totals.

Equipment selection and the work method need a qualified contractor familiar with the site. This guide helps frame the brief; it does not replace manufacturer instructions, site assessment or engineering.
