Establish the starting conditions

Gather available surveys, ground information, drawings and utility records. Identify access, retained features and the finished condition that the next contractor needs.

Plan earthworks as a material balance

Discuss which material can remain, what must leave and what needs to be brought in. Include stockpiles, loading positions, truck movements and changes when the actual ground differs from the assumptions.

Agree the acceptance point

Define formation levels, drainage, compaction and testing through the project team. Specify the records and sign-off needed for handover; a level-looking surface alone is not an acceptance test.
