Lifting & material handling

The placement plan matters as much as the delivery.

Identify what must move, where it starts and where it finishes. A machinery category alone does not establish capacity at a particular position.

Telehandlers

Reach and handling tasks vary with the machine and attachment configuration. Provide load details, landing positions and access conditions so the supplier can propose an appropriate combination.

Mobile cranes

A crane proposal should be tied to the loads and planned positions. Ask who coordinates lift planning, ground assessment, setup space, access and the receiving crew.

Crawler cranes

Tracked cranes can be part of longer-duration construction or foundation work. Include assembly, working-platform requirements, movements and demobilisation in the project discussion.

Material handlers

Specialist handling machines move and sort material with task-specific tools. Define the material stream, loading heights, working envelope and how people and vehicles will move around the operation.

Pipelayers

Pipe installation involves coordinated support, handling and placement. Ask the specialist to explain the equipment spread, responsibilities and how the installation sequence relates to the trench and access route.

Define the complete scope

Ask for the proposed machine configuration, delivery arrangements, supporting equipment, material handling and finished result in writing. Separate confirmed site information from assumptions, and agree how changed conditions will be documented and priced.

Questions before comparing proposals

  1. What are the confirmed load details?
  2. Who is responsible for the placement plan?
  3. What setup and restoration work is excluded?
